Welsh Government releases building control regulation update

The Welsh Government has released documents summarising regulations coming into force in April in Wales and secondary regulations on restricted activities and functions for those in building control.

Issued by Kevin Davies, Building Control Competence and Standards Officer, both circulars essentially detail new regulations supporting the Building Safety Act 2022, and apply to buildings in Wales and building control professionals working in Wales.

The first is a summary of commencement regulations coming into force on 6 April 2024, and transitional provisionals between 6 April 2024 to 1 October 2024, focusing on building inspectors who are yet to complete their legally required competency assessments.

The second is notification on the implementation of secondary regulations from 6 April, relating to restricted activities and functions applicable to Registered Building Inspectors and building control authorities.

After nearly two decades in the building control industry, Mark Tambini FCABE was recently appointed Head of Building Regulations Policy for the Welsh Government. Just weeks into the role, he told Building Engineer what his priorities are, and how he plans to push the boundaries
