CABE’s Presidential walk for charity

The whole trek team

On 22 March 2025, CABE President Richard Flynn, CEO Richard Harral and Vice President Paul Grinyer alongside family and friends took on a 10km walk in Killarney, Ireland, to the stunning Torc Waterfall in Co Kerry.

Organised by CABE in partnership with Cork University Hospital (CUH) Charity, the trek was a fundraiser for CUH, where the neurosurgical team cared for Brian Flynn, Richard Flynn’s son. Brian was diagnosed with a brain tumour in May 2022 and sadly passed away in June 2024. Throughout this time, CUH provided Brian with exceptional care and support. Brian’s family were determined to honour his memory by giving something back to the hospital that had shown them all such compassion and dedication.

Happily, the committed walkers had good weather on the day, their efforts supported by Kerry Climbing personnel, and they raised the phenomenal amount of more than €28,000.

CUH has confirmed that this donation will go towards the purchase of special medical equipment, the ORBEYE Exoscope, for the neurosurgical ward. The benefits of this are numerous, including the ability to provide top-notch imaging and versatility for surgery, as well as offering live streaming views to improve teaching and learning.

Claire Concannon, Executive Director of CUH Charity, said of the donation: “Purchases like this are only possible because of donations. We want to thank Brian Flynn, in whose memory donations were made. Brian’s legacy will live on through this incredible gift, helping many people get the best care possible. It is a beautiful way to remember him.”

The entire CABE Presidential Team and all at CABE HQ would like to thank everyone who participated in the walk and who donated to this worthy cause.

Donations can still be made via idonate.ie/CABE – thank you
