George Paton FCABE Chartered Building Engineer
Former member of CABE’s MPSC Committee
It was with great sadness we received the news that our dear colleague and friend George Paton passed away in the early hours of Monday 12 December 2022.
George graduated from Glasgow College of Building in 1974 with a Higher National Diploma, following which he successfully completed his Construction Management course at Glasgow College of Technology. A professionally qualified Quantity Surveyor and Chartered Building Engineer, George joined Contemplor – Surveying and Building Engineering Services as Principal Engineer in 1999. He achieved full membership of CABE (ABE) in 2004 and was awarded Fellow of the Association in 2012.
During his career, George provided a range of building engineering services and fulfilled the role of Expert Witness, working tirelessly for his clients in achieving the best possible resolution. He had a passion for his work in the area of debt resolution and avoidance, working both with private and corporate clients; he had a wealth of knowledge and experience, which he shared with his colleagues and friends.
George joined the CABE Membership and Professional Standards Committee (MPSC) in 2019 and played a crucial part in developing what has become a very hard-working committee of volunteers, ensuring a high standard of governance of the Association and professional standards of our members.
In 2021, George received the CABE Gold Service Award for his dedication to our Association and his desire to help our members.
A true gentleman, George never shied away from a problem. His honesty and integrity served him well both in his work life and with the MPSC. A great family man, he will be dearly missed by his wife Helen, Geo and Julie, as well as his colleagues.
Rest in peace, my dear friend.
Richard Flynn, VPCABE FCABE, Chair of the MPSC
