Defying Gravity
Stonemasons Ian Knapper created a floating stone staircase for a historic house renovation.
In the Scottish borders lies a country house that recently underwent a complete top-to-bottom renovation led by Boydell Architecture. Stone specialists Ian Knapper were asked to create a solid stone statement staircase that was befitting the history and grandeur of the building, but with a bottom section that seamlessly floats out into the room, spanning a stairwell that leads to the basement below.
