According to the United Nations Environment Programme, the built environment accounts for an estimated 40% of global energy use, with energy-related greenhouse gas emissions estimated to be approximately 30% alongside environmental issues caused by waste generation and natural resource usage. Although the building sector is the largest contributor to global greenhouse gas emissions, it does offer significant potential for energy-efficiency savings.
