Let there be light
Sun pipes were first used, as far as we know, by the ancient Egyptians who would create spaces in the brickwork of the pyramids to direct light from the stars in important constellations down shafts into certain rooms of the tomb. The reasons for the ritual are unknown, yet the planning and care that this must have taken to achieve shows that the ancient Egyptians believed celestial light carried great power. This is a concept we are familiar with.
