Engineering professionals recognised in the 2025 King’s Birthday Honours List

Several engineering professionals have been celebrated in the 2025 King’s Birthday Honours List for their outstanding contributions across engineering, defence, energy, education, and environmental innovation. 

The King’s Birthday Honours highlight individuals whose work has made a lasting impact on society, infrastructure, sustainability, and national safety. From pioneering renewable energy to advancing nuclear safety, the awards reflect the breadth and importance of engineering across the UK.

Chi Onwurah DBE CEng FIET – MP for Newcastle Upon Tyne Central and West, and Chair of the Science, Technology and Innovation Select Committee. For political and public service.

Mark Foy CBE CEng FNucI – Chief Executive and Chief Nuclear Inspector, Office for Nuclear Regulation. For services to nuclear safety and security.

Dr Peter James Musgrove CBE CEng MRAeS – Renewable energy pioneer. For services to renewable energy.

Professor William Powrie CBE CEng FICE – Professor of Geotechnical Engineering, University of Southampton. For services to engineering.

Professor Andrew Randewich CBE CEng FInstP – Executive Director Science, Atomic Weapons Establishment. For services to defence.

Dr Hanifa Unisa Shah OBE CEng FBCS – Pro Vice-Chancellor, Birmingham City University. For services to higher education.

John William Whitaker OBE CEng FIMechE – Lately Distinguished Specialist, Atomic Weapons Establishment. For services to defence.
