Hong Kong orders inquiry after fatal tower blaze

TOPSHOT-HONG KONG-CHINA-FIRE

The fire in November of seven out of eight tower blocks at the Wang Fuk Court housing complex claimed at least 159 lives.

Hong Kong police alleged that unsafe scaffolding and foam materials used during maintenance work may have been behind its rapid spread. The city’s fire service found that alarms in all eight blocks were not working effectively.

Hong Kong’s Chief Executive John Lee has ordered the creation of an independent committee to examine what led to the fire. CABE’s sympathies are with all of those affected.
