Industry responds to BSA's warranty legislation

The Building Safety Act makes provision for secondary legislation to extend new home warranties in England from ten to 12 years to 15 years and make them mandatory for all new homes in England, with powers to impose fines for non-compliance.
LABC Warranty’s industry survey, conducted at the end of 2023, shows cautious support; however, it also showed that 64% of those working in the sector are unaware of the proposals to extend the cover period, and 53% were unaware of a proposal to make warranty cover a legal requirement for all new homes. Despite this, 58% believed mandating warranties would lead to better standards or safety or improved customer satisfaction.
