PAS 2000 launch event signals new era for safer construction products
The construction sector has taken a major step towards improving product safety and accountability with the launch of PAS 2000, a new standard designed to strengthen the way construction products are brought to market.
The PAS 2000 Launch Event, taking place next week (10 March) at the Royal College of Pathologists in London, marks an important milestone in the industry’s response to post-Grenfell reforms and the drive for greater transparency across the supply chain.
CABE's Head of Technical Insight and technical author of PAS 2000, Hywel Davies, will be speaking at the event, which will be attended by manufacturers, regulators, building engineers and safety professionals.
What is PAS 2000?
PAS 2000 has been developed by BSI (British Standards Institution) to establish clear requirements for the competence, governance and quality management systems of organisations placing construction products on the market.
It supports the wider regulatory framework introduced under the Building Safety Act 2022, helping ensure that safety-critical products are supported by robust evidence, accurate performance data and clear lines of responsibility.
For building engineers, PAS 2000 is expected to improve confidence in product information, reduce ambiguity in technical documentation and strengthen assurance processes throughout design, specification and installation stages.
