Professionally registered engineers and technicians earn more, according to The Engineer’s 2025 Salary Survey. Of the 621 respondents, who work across 12 different sectors, 49% were professionally registered.

Based on this sample, registered engineers earn £7k more than respondents who are not professionally registered.

The Engineering Council currently holds the national register of nearly 215,000 engineers and technicians professionally registered as: Engineering Technician (EngTech), Incorporated Engineer (IEng), Chartered Engineer (CEng) and Information and Communications Technology Technician (ICTTech).

Most recently it has launched the Higher-Risk Building Registration for engineers and technicians who work in the built environment sector, in particular on higher-risk buildings.
