£65m pledge to digitise local council planning systems in England

The government has pledged £65m to digitise local council planning systems in England.

It is hoping to make the planning process more accessible to more people by enabling them to scan QR codes to see interactive 3D maps. The government also announced that 13 planning authorities had won funding for piloting digitisation. Cambridge, for example, won £100,000 to use technology to capture views on a scheme appearing in news articles and social media feeds.
