Welcome

As the end of the year is fast approaching, it is time for me to reflect on the Association’s progress and plans for the future. I do believe we have successfully put CABE at the forefront of a revolution in competency and ethics within our sector.

CABE’s robust approach to competency and professional conduct are recognised and instilled in the ability to award both the Chartered Building Engineer title and the registration of members with the Engineering Council up to and including the coveted Chartered Engineer (CEng). Alongside new tailored competency schemes – designed to assist those working in Building Control or in General Engineering roles on Higher-Risk Buildings (HRBs) to meet the requirements of the Building Safety Act (2022) – CABE can support members in demonstrating their competency and professionalism to the highest standards within the industry.

By proactively engaging with these industry changes (particularly those related to the Building Safety Act in England and Wales) and adapting what we do, CABE members can play their part in the transformation of the construction sector into a much better work environment that delivers the safe and efficient buildings that the public expect.

But, of course, part of being professional includes requirements to keep up to date and maintain competency through CPD. With the end of the year approaching, I would encourage all members to ensure their CPD records are updated and uploaded on the CABE Community at cbuilde.com/members/certifications.aspx. Remember – CABE takes CPD provision very seriously and maintains records diligently, so don’t get caught out in the upcoming audit.

I would also like to draw your attention to CABE’s main event this year, Built Environment LIVE at ExCeL London on 5-6 December. It is free to attend, and a golden opportunity for networking, lectures and CPD points. See more at builtenvironmentseries.com/live-2023

If you’re interested in shaping the future of the Association, consider applying for the forthcoming Board and/or Regional elections.

Your time and effort can make real change, plus you can ensure CABE continues to be run for and on behalf of its members. Contact [email protected] for more information.
