Welsh Government opens BSA consultation

The next step in Wales's adoption of the Building Safety Act's principles and laws has seen a consultation issued by the Welsh Government on proposed changes to the building control regime and building regulations in Wales.

The consultation, which closes on 25 May, forms part of a phased plan to introduce "a more stringent regulatory regime during design and construction for higher-risk buildings", as well as changes to the building regulations in Wales.

The consultation focuses on:

  • the introduction of duty-holders
  • changes in the building control approval system and the proposal to introduce a series of gateways
  • a system for mandatory occurrence reporting
  • the requirements around producing and maintaining a golden thread of information in relation to higher-risk buildings
  • the introduction of compliance and stop notices
  • changes to local authority higher-risk building work and the potential for conflict of interest; and
  • wider changes to building regulations and the transitional provisions that may arise.

A webinar providing an overview of the proposals and an opportunity to ask questions will be hosted on 10 April. To register your interest, email [email protected]. More information on the consultation is available here.
