Built Environment England

The inaugural conference in the NEW Built Environment Conference Series is taking place at the University of Salford on 20 June 2023. Following the theme of Performance, Compliance and Safety, this technical and leadership conference will investigate key areas of the industry including the challenges of the new duty holder regime, the creation of a regulated building control profession, future testing and certification requirements of construction products, and the journey to zero carbon.

Join us for four plenary sessions that will explore some of the key and most pressing subjects within the industry at the moment:

  • Bringing the Dutyholding Regime and Competence to Life
  • Construction Product Regulation, Certification, Warranty and Testing
  • Liability and Enforcement Under the Building Safety Act
  • Achieving Low or Zero Carbon in Practice.

Each session will see expert speakers come together and collaborate to share best practice, delve into the key aspects of new legislation, and explain what these changes mean for the construction sector. In addition to the BSR, delegates will hear expert perspectives from Jon Vanstone, Chair of the Interim Industry Competence Committee; Hardy Geisler, Chief Executive of BBA; Amanda Stubbs, Partner at law firm Trowers and Hamlins; and joining session four is Technical and Innovation Group Director at Barratt Homes, Oliver Novakovic and Professor Richard Fitton who will discuss the Energy House 2.0 project.

Concluding each session will be a lively debate in the form of a Q&A session, which will see expert panels interacting with a wide range of construction professionals, allowing the industry to delve deeper into the issues that are affecting the whole of the construction sector, as well as identifying opportunities for the future.

Alongside the conference programme we will be hosting a trade exhibition, allowing you the opportunity to discover the most recent products and services of specialists within the industry, enabling you to build on your existing knowledge and network with other like- minded professionals.

Energy House 2.0 Tour

The conference will conclude with a unique opportunity to tour Salford University’s Energy House 2.0, the world leading energy performance test facility located on the University campus. As the largest research facility of its kind, each of the two environmental chambers can accommodate two complete detached houses enabling companies to innovate and develop low carbon technologies for our future climate, today. The project is designed to research and test in tightly controlled conditions, new and innovative ways of powering, heating, and insulating homes, whilst simultaneously minimising water usage.

The outcomes of this research project will be used to inform the sector about achieving a significant reduction in carbon emissions for new build homes in 2025.
