The collapse of electrical cables under fire conditions creates an entangling mesh from ceiling to floor and the cables become obstacles to movement. This is exacerbated when heat and smoke from a fire turn aprecarious situation into a life-threatening one, and has led to a number of fire fighters dying due to entanglement in smoke-filled conditions.
