Welsh Government launches two consultations
The Welsh Government has launched two new consultations seeking views on the forthcoming building inspectors register; and changes to the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.
The first consultation seeks views on the proposed Professional Conduct Rules for Registered Building Control Approvers (Wales). The Professional Conduct Rules set out the principles and standards of behaviour that building control approvers will need to adhere to. This code of conduct the applies to all who wish to register with as a Building Inspector, whether they work in the private or public sector.
Responses must be submitted by 24 April.
The second consultation proposes changes to legislation to improve fire safety in businesses and multi-occupied residential buildings in Wales.
Although high-rise residential buildings are proportionately much more common in England than in Wales, the basic principles of fire safety in multi-occupied residential buildings are the same in both countries. The Welsh government plans to make those improvements earlier in Wales, through legislation the UK Government has introduced.
This follows the passing of the Building Safety Act 2022 (Commencement No. 2) (Wales) Regulations 2022 on 6 December 2022, which brought into force various sections of the Building Safety Act 2022 (BSA) that empower the Welsh Government to define the term "higher-risk building".
The consultation is due to close on 12 May 2023. Take part here.
