Dr Hywel Davies, Head of Technical Insight at the Chartered Association of Building Engineers (CABE), has been awarded an OBE in the King’s New Year Honours List 2026, recognising more than four decades of outstanding service to building safety and standards.

Charles Lam Tsz Kai CEng CEnv MSc MCABE C.Build E C.WEM MCIWEM was nominated for the prestigious SocEnv Rising Star Award.

CABE CEO Richard Harral hosted a webinar in October explaining the current status and process for CBICAS revalidation and scope extensions for registered building inspectors.

The Association turned 100 years old on 12 September, marked with a garden party at Stanbrook Abbey, Worcester.

In a move aimed at strengthening professional pathways for skilled construction workers, the Chartered Association of Building Engineers Hong Kong Chapter (CABE HK) has signed a Memorandum of Intent (MoI) with the Construction Industry Council (Hong Kong) (CIC HK).

CABE’s Built Environment series is back and bigger than ever, covering the UK and Ireland as well as specific CPD topics.

With AI so topical, CABE’s Hong Kong Chapter organised a technical visit to the Centre for Future Construction (CFC) alongside the Hong Kong Construction Industry Council in October.

Richard Harral, CABE CEO, has added his signature to a list of more than 70 organisations, businesses and academic institutions that support RIBA’s letter to the UK government, urging the Labour administration to raise the eligibility age for Level 7 apprenticeship funding to 25 as this will support its own construction ambitions.

CABE Board elections will take place in January 2026.

There is a new addition to CABE’s annual accolades this year – the Earl of Lytton Award.

Soon CABE will publish its consultation paper on the future direction of the Association, developed over the past year in response to the Grenfell Tower Inquiry Phase 2 Report.

CABE congratulates the latest graduates awarded the CABE Best Final Year Student award 2025:

Isaac Carter – BSc (Hons) Construction Management, Nottingham Trent University

Todd Beckett graduated with a BSc (Hons) in Architectural Technology in 2024 and received the CABE Best Final Year Student award – his next step was with AECOM Engineering.
